5 Reasons Why Your Toilet Keeps Clogging

June 15th 2021

When a plumbing issue arises, you want to experienced master plumber to diagnose your problem quickly. Plumbers and those in the trades also have a responsibility to share their knowledge with the public to prevent issues in the first place. NCT Plumbing of Fort Worth, Texas helps us figure out, “why does my toilet keep clogging?”

Your Toilet is Old

The most common issue with a reoccurring clogged pipe is generally an old toilet. Outdated toilets aren’t designed for a lot of flushes. You can remedy this problem early by making sure you have a newer toilet with the most recent quality control standards. New toilets are designed to flush with less water while still clearing the bowl.

Fill Value is Malfunctioning

The fill valve is the device inside the tank that fills the tank with water. If the mechanism isn’t functioning properly, the bowl won’t fill enough and there won’t be enough water to rid the bowl of all waste.

Blocked Pipe

Your plumbing extends beyond the pipes you can see, and clogs in the pipes are often from things that aren’t meant to be flushed. Women’s sanitary products, toothbrushes, or even razors can block the pipe and debris build up around it. This may sound farfetched, but we’ve seen it happen.

Sewage Line

Just before the mainline in the street where your responsibility as a homeowner ends and the city begins is a sewage line in the yard. If you’ve got a large tree, a building project, or even burrowing animals, there may be a broken pipe under the yard that isn’t easy to see. Most homeowners cannot expect to fix this problem themselves and instead, be mindful of the condition of the pipes using frequent inspections and better planning.

Vents

Most homes are equipped with one to two vent lines leading outside the house. These vents are open and are designed to allow gasses to escape and regulate pressure in the lines. Weather events and debris are the common causes for disrupted vent lines. A simple inspection from the homeowner will be due to tell if this is the culprit.

Bonus: Excessive Wastepaper Usage

It Is possible to clog a toilet by using too much toilet paper. Most of you have experienced this and you whip out the old plunger and that normally does the trick. The reason toilet paper might cause a clog is that it didn’t dissolve all the way. Prevent this from happening by using less toilet paper; 3-4 squares per wipe should do the trick!
